The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) clashed in the 18th game of IPL 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Before the game, Mumbai were going through a dry run as they had lost three in three matches in the league. RCB had won their previous two games and had the winning momentum.

The toss landed in Faf du Plessis’ favour as he put his opponents to bat. MI started off really well as openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma added 49 runs in the powerplay, that is the first six overs. But as the game started unfolding, MI faced a terrible collapse, losing five wickets between overs 7-11, as the batters could add merely 12 runs in four overs.

It was Suryakumar Yadav who led MI upfront and took the team to a decent total. RCB’s Mohammed Siraj was punished by the batters as he gave away 51 runs in his four-over spell, ending wicketless. Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel added two wickets each to their tally, followed by Akash Deep picking one. Yadav remained unbeaten with his 37-ball 68 as he took MI’s total to 151/6 at the end of the innings.

Rawat and Kohli lead RCB to victory, defeating MI by seven wickets

Talking about the chase, RCB openers Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat brought up a fifty-run stand before the skipper lost his wicket to Jaydev Unadkat. But Rawat’s contribution with the bat, alongside his partnership with Virat Kohli, steered the innings for RCB in the middle. The 22-year-old earned his maiden half-century as he scored a 66(47), including two fours and six sixes.

The MI players’ frustration was clearly visible as they showcased poor fielding, leading to over-throws and catch drops. Dinesh Karthik was promoted up the order as he walked in at number 4 to fulfill the finisher’s duties, and soon after his entry, Dewald Brevis picked his maiden IPL wicket, off his very first ball of the league, in the form of Kohli.

Glenn Maxwell’s two fours in the two balls that he faced finished the game for RCB in style, as they won by seven wickets, handing MI their fourth consecutive loss in IPL 2022.
