Delhi Capitals pulled off a stunning victory against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians as they won the second match of IPL 2022 by four wickets at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Chasing 178 to win, DC found themselves in huge trouble at 104/6, but Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel came to the rescue. Both remained not out on 48 and 38 respectively, to seal the deal for their side.

Earlier, Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to field first. They took the field with just two overseas players in Tim Seifert and Rovman Powell, which was only the second time in the history of the league that a team had only two overseas players in the XI. Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma amassed 41 runs off 32 balls with four fours and two sixes. But it was Ishan Kishan who was the star for Mumbai as he struck an unbeaten 81 runs off just 48 deliveries to help his team in posting 177/5 in 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav bowled a brilliant spell of 3/18 in four overs.

Chasing 178, openers Seifert and Prithvi Shaw made 21 and 38 respectively, as skipper Pant was for just 1 off 2. Mandeep Singh and Rovman Powell bagged ducks with DC finding themselves at 104/6 in 13.2 overs. Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel then joined hands to pull off a stunning win to finish off the chase in 18.2 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Daniel Sams conceded 100 runs in between them in 7.2 overs without taking a wicket as MI’s opening day woes continued in the competition.
