Sunrisers Hyderabad have recorded their second win in IPL 2022 courtesy of a stellar all-round effort. While skipper Kane Williamson scored a match-winning half-century, Marco Jansen and T Natarajan delivered impressive spells. As a result, SRH defeated GT by eight wickets with the latter team suffering their first defeat of the season.

Earlier in the match, SRH won the toss and opted to field at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. The game began in a very uncharacteristic fashion with Bhuvneshwar Kumar giving away two boundary wides in the first over, which had 17 runs scored. Despite the horrendous start, Bhuvneshwar was still given the third over to bowl, and he took SRH’s first wicket by dismissing Shubman Gill.

GT skipper Hardik Pandya kept the runs flowing, but SRH managed to take regular wickets at the other end. Hardik finally found a supporting partner in Abhinav Manohar, with whom he shared a fifty-run stand in about five overs. This took Gujarat Titans to a decent total of 162/7.

Sunrisers Hyderabad began in a very unconvincing style, defending a lot of deliveries in the first four overs without hitting any boundary. Kane Williamson then broke the shackles with a four and a six off Mohammed Shami, and from thereon nothing stopped SRH.

Williamson got an early life as Hardik incorrectly chose not to review an LBW decision. Slowly and steadily, he made the best use of it and scored his first half-century of the season. He got good support from Abhishek Sharma, who provided the initial charge, and later Nicholas Pooran, who finished off the chase with ease. As a result, SRH crossed the line in 19.1 overs, clinching the contest by eight wickets.

Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from Match 21 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2022:

17 – Hardik Pandya scored his first fifty in the IPL after 17 innings. This is his first IPL fifty, since he scored a 21-ball unbeaten 60 against Rajasthan Royals in 2020.

10 – Rashid Khan registered his tenth duck in the IPL, which is the highest of all players since his debut in 2017. No one else has managed more than seven ducks in this period.

12 – Total wides conceded by Bhuvneshwar Kumar today, which is the second-highest in IPL history. The highest (14) was also in the current season, by RCB’s Mohammed Siraj against Punjab Kings.
