Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings will be facing each other in the 23rd match of IPL 2022 at MCA International Stadium in Pune. Both teams just missed out on the playoffs of the last IPL season, with MI finishing fifth and PBKS finishing sixth in the table. This season, Mumbai Indians are yet to open their account having lost all their four games. Punjab Kings have begun the season with two wins and two losses. During this season, Mumbai Indians have lost against KKR and RCB at Pune, while Punjab Kings will play their first match on this ground.
Captain Rohit Sharma has not been in good form this season, and his opening partner Ishan Kishan also had two disappointing knocks after the fifties in the first two games. Suryakumar Yadav who returned from injury straightaway scored two fifties, and the 19-year-old Tilak Varma has begun in a promising manner. Except for an economical three-wicket haul from Jasprit Bumrah in the Mumbai Indians’ second match, the team doesn’t have much to flaunt in their bowling this season.
Despite their powerful openers in Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan not living up to the promise, Liam Livingstone at No.4 is at the good touch, having scored two brisk fifties in a row. This season, Rahul Chahar is the pick of PBKS bowlers, taking seven wickets at an economy rate of 6.31.
