Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by three wickets in the 33rd match of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja won the toss and put MI in to bat. The match began with Mukesh Choudhary getting rid of Mumbai Indians’ top-three in Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Dewald Brevis in no time. The next three players in the batting lineup Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and the debutant Hrithik Shokeen settled down things and then a nine-ball cameo from Jaydev Unadkat took MI to a respectable total of 155/7.

CSK’s innings began in a similar fashion to MI, with left-arm pacer Daniel Sams taking two quick wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mitchell Santner. Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu, who scored 30 and 40 respectively, shared a fifty-run stand to keep CSK ahead in the match. After Unadkat got rid of Uthappa, Daniel Sams added two more wickets to the tally with the wickets of Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu.

Things slowed down with three boundary-less overs and CSK found themselves in a tricky position, needing 42 to win off last three overs. It was Dwaine Pretorius who initially made CSK’s situation better, hitting boundaries off Unadkat and Jasprit Bumrah.

With 17 required off the last over, Unadkat dismissed Pretorius on the first ball as MI’s triumph looked inevitable at that point. However, MS Dhoni brought back his vintage reputation and silenced his critics by hitting two boundaries and a six in the last over. As a result, CSK crossed the line in the very last ball.
