KL Rahul continued his love affair with Mumbai Indians (MI) as he slammed his fourth century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and third against MI. Courtesy of skipper Rahul’s ton, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) posted 168/6, subsequently winning the encounter by 36 runs in Match 37 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Sri Lanka pacer Dushmantha Chameera led the bowling attack well for LSG as he bowled a brilliant spell where he conceded just 14 runs in his four-over spell.

Speaking about how the encounter panned out, both sides met for the second time this season as Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first. MI went into the match with the same side from the last game while LGS made one change with Mohsin Khan replacing the seamer Avesh Khan. Rahul slammed his second hundred of this edition and both of them have come against MI. He remained unbeaten on 103 runs off just 62 deliveries with 12 fours and four maximums. Overseas Australian pace bowlers Daniel Sams and Riley Meredith leaked 40 runs apiece in their spells.

Chasing 169 for their first victory of the campaign, Ishan Kishan’s poor run stretched as he managed just eight runs in 20 deliveries. Captain Rohit made 39 off 31 balls with five fours and a six but Dewald Brevis and Suryakumar Yadav managed to score only three and seven runs respectively. Tilak Varma showed some fight as the left-handed youngster amassed 38 runs off 27 balls with two fours and as many sixes.

Kieron Pollard looked off-coloured as he could only score 19 runs off 20. Krunal Pandya picked three wickets for 19 runs in his spell as LSG with this win is now in the fourth position with ten points. MI lost their eighth successive match of this campaign as they remain winless. For his match-winning ton, skipper KL Rahul won the Player of the Match award.
