The fourth game of the Indian Premier League 2022 saw the clash of the two debut teams Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. The two teams were led by KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya respectively, and both of them would have wished to grab a winning start.

As both the captains were willing to opt to bowl, winning the toss, Hardik Pandya put Rahul’s men to bat first. Both the teams had their key overseas players missing. To start the game, the lethal opening duo of KL and Quinton de Kock walked in to bat for LSG. Mohammad Shami struck with the very first ball of the game as he dismissed KL for a golden duck.

At the end of the powerplay, LSG was 32/4 with Shami picking three, and GT had dominated the game all the way. Half-centuries from Deepak Hooda and newcomer Ayush Badoni helped LSG put up a decent score towards the end of the innings as they ended up scoring 158 runs at the loss of six wickets. But it was a treat to the eyes to see Hardik Pandya back in the bowling attack.

GT defeated LSG in the 4th clash of IPL 2022

LSG’s bowling attack made it a nightmare for the GT openers to start their innings. Dushmantha Chameera picked up Shubman Gill and dismissed the opener for a three-ball duck. Just like Shami, Chameera also picked up a second wicket in his second over and dismissed Vijay Shankar for 4(6).

Skipper Hardik and Mathew Wade anchored GT’s innings after losing two early wickets. But the former had to eventually walk back when his elder brother Krunal Pandya dismissed him. Multiple boundaries from Rahul Tewatia and David Miller cut the chase short, and then Abhinav Manohar joined the party too.

The GT middle-order helped their team chase down the target of 159 in the 19th over as Hardik Pandya began his IPL captaincy career with a massive victory against the fellow new entrants. Rahul Tewatia’s unbeaten knock of 40*(24) sailed his team over the line.
