Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants took the field at MCA to set the rivalry for the 42nd match of the IPL 2022 where LSG came out with flying colours to grab the match by 20 runs. The match was all set for action between two close friends and former teammates Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul but both failed to talk with the bat much. The story kicked off with PBKS winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, the road mostly taken by toss-winning skippers so far.

Experienced men in form of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock walked up the field to only see the former failing on just six runs. However, Rahul’s Protean partner showed grit and determination in the middle to add a valuable 46 off 37. After De Kock was undone by Sandeep Sharma, LSG set up lacked the required firepower and intensity to take the team towards a challenging score.

Deepak Hooda’s 34 off 28 was the final bright spot in Lucknow’s batting setup as the middle and lower order failed terribly for them and they posted 153 runs on the board. Though Kagiso Rabada was the star with the ball as he bagged a four-fer, he leaked runs all the while conceding at 9.50. Sandeep Sharma, on the other hand, remained successful once on the day but conceded only 18 runs in his four overs.

Mohsin Khan, Krunal Pandya star with ball for LSG

Though LSG couldn’t post a huge total on the board, they were upright with their bowling show to make themselves feel settled in the game. The skipper at the top, Mayank Agarwal, went off after adding just 25 off 17. The next man in support was Jonny Bairstow who amassed 32 runs off 28 balls.

PBKS pinned their hopes on Rishi Dhawan at the end but he even couldn’t survive the heat of increasing required rate and remained unbeaten on 21 runs while remaining a few runs short of the total. Mohsin Khan was the stunner with the ball for LSG as he picked three wickets to only give away just 24 runs in Pune. Krunal Pandya on the other hand rolled a golden arm as he gave just 11 runs to snatch away two wickets in four overs. In the same line, Dushmantha Chameera picked two crucial wickets in form of Jonny Bairstow and Mayank Agarwal.
