Mumbai Indians will be upbeat after opening their account in IPL 2022
5 Min Read

The Mumbai Indians will be locking horns with the table-toppers Gujarat Titans in Match 51 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on May 6. Both teams would be heading into this clash on the back of contrasting results. While MI defeated in-form Rajasthan Royals by five wickets in their previous encounter, GT went down to Punjab Kings by eight wickets.
The win helped MI in registering their very first points in the ongoing season after eight unsuccessful attempts. With them being out of the race for playoffs this season, the five-time winners would wish to salvage pride by winning their remaining fixtures. Meanwhile, Mumbai would have no hesitation in fielding the same Playing XI that helped them in opening their account in the first place.
Here’s the predicted Playing XI of the Mumbai Indians for Match 51 of IPL 2022:
Openers: Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan
Skipper Rohit Sharma has not been in good touch with the bat throughout the season having amassed just 155 runs from nine games with his highest score being 41. The ‘Hitman’ has got off to good starts on a few occasions but, has not succeeded in converting them into impactful scores. He would be hoping to make amends this time around.
On the other hand, Ishan Kishan has too failed miserably in justifying his hefty price tag having managed just a couple of half-centuries in what has turned out to be a dismal campaign for Mumbai Indians. He scored an 18-ball 26 in the last match and would now be looking forward to showcasing a much better performance.
Middle-Order: Tim David, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma

Tim David was MI’s hero in the last match. Just when it looked like the former champions would lose their way in a manageable chase, he stood up and added the finishing touch with an unbeaten nine-ball 20. Suryakumar Yadav’s 51 runs from 39 deliveries showed the way for Mumbai Indians just when they lost Ishan Kishan after getting a good start.
If not for youngster Tilak Varma’s handy 35 runs off 30 balls, Mumbai Indians could have found themselves in a precarious situation. He played a good supporting role to perfection by adding 81 runs with Yadav for the third wicket stand.
All-Rounders: Kieron Pollard and Hrithik Shokeen

Kieron Pollard’s performances have been disappointing this season, to say the least. He has only managed 125 runs from nine outings with one unbeaten knock and the highest score of 25. At the same time, the Caribbean sensation has also failed miserably to make an impact in the wickets column with just three scalps to his name.
On the other hand, budding cricketer Hrithik Shokeen has scored 25 runs in three outings and has picked up two wickets at an economy rate of nine. He would wish to help his team bow out on a high, with a few more remarkable performances.
Bowlers: Daniel Sams, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya and Riley Meredith

Daniel Sams has not been much impressive with the ball in hand, as far as his reputation of being a seasoned campaigner is concerned. He has only managed seven wickets from six matches. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been off-colored this time, to say the least. While he has featured in all of MI’s nine games, the premier speedster has only registered five scalps to his name.
Debutant Kumar Kartikeya bowled an economical spell of 1/19 against RR where he accounted for skipper Sanju Samson early on. He would be hoping to showcase a similar performance once again. Riley Meridith’s 2/24 damaged Rajasthan’s momentum completely which ended up restricting them to a manageable total despite Jos Buttler’s quickfire knock.
