Wanindu Hasaranga spun his web as he destroyed the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by picking up 5/18 to seal the seventh victory for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by a huge margin of 67 runs, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Faf du Plessis led his side from the front as he made unbeaten 73 off 50 to help his side score 192/3.

Talking about how the Southern derby panned out, Du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat. While RCB were unchanged, SRH made two changes with Afghanistan player Fazalhaq Farooqi and Jagadeesha Suchith replacing Sean Abbott and Shreyas Gopal respectively. Virat Kohli’s horrendous form extended as he got dismissed for yet another golden duck, his third of this season and second against SRH this year. Suchith got rid of him off the very first ball of the match with Kohli enduring a soft dismissal.

Rajat Patidar continued to impress as the right-handed batter scored 48 runs off 38 deliveries with four fours and two sixes. Glenn Maxwell (33 off 24) looked at his destructive best but it was Dinesh Karthik’s show in the final overs again as the wicketkeeper-batter hammered an unbeaten 30 runs off just eight deliveries, which included one four and four maximums. He has now scored 71 runs in the 20th over this campaign, which is the most by any batter.

Chasing 193, SRH got off to the worst possible start as skipper Kane Williamson bagged a diamond duck, getting run-out without facing a single delivery. His opening partner Abhishek Sharma also got dismissed for a duck with the Orange Army struggling at 1/2. Rahul Tripathi scored a fighting fifty (58 off 37) but Hasaranga dismantled SRH’s middle-order to bundle them out for just 125 runs.

Williamson’s side has now lost four matches on the bounce and has slipped to the sixth position in the table with ten points. Meanwhile, RCB moved to 14 points and occupy the fourth spot. For his match-winning five-wicket haul, Wanindu Hasaranga bagged the Player of the Match award.
