Delhi Capitals are set to battle it out against the Punjab Kings in their next encounter and this will be an important fixture for both the teams. With six wins in 12 games, Delhi Capitals are currently at the fifth position in the points table and their fate of making it to the playoffs will remain in their hands if they can manage to win their remaining two fixtures. However, they also have the possibility of qualifying on 14 points, given that they have improved their net run rate recently.

The good news for the Delhi Capitals camp will be the return of Prithvi Shaw who had to be sidelined due to his illness and was hospitalised as well. The batters stepped up again in the previous game and the bowling looks more formidable now with Mitchell Marsh turning up with overs as well.

The side produced a dominating performance against the Rajasthan Royals in the previous game and they will be looking to continue the momentum into the upcoming fixture as well.

Here’s a look at Delhi Capitals’ predicted playing XI against Punjab Kings:

Openers: Prithvi Shaw and David Warner

Prithvi Shaw is all set to be back in the playing XI for the Delhi Capitals after missing out on the last three games and it will be a massive boost to the side at the top of the order. With 259 runs in nine games, Shaw has given a lot of good starts alongside David Warner and Delhi would expect him to do so again. He can be very destructive in the powerplay as well.

David Warner, on the other hand, has been the most consistent batter for the Delhi franchise and has moved into the third position in the race for the Orange Cap with 427 runs in 10 games. The left-hander has been in terrific form in recent times and scored an unbeaten half-century to take the side home in the last game against Rajasthan Royals.

Middle Order: Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant, Rowman Powell

Mitchell Marsh showed his worth in the side for the Delhi Capitals in the previous game where he played a match-winning innings of 89. The Australian dasher can demolish bowling attacks once he starts going and his form will be key to success in the remaining games for Delhi.

Rishabh Pant played just four deliveries in the previous game where he smoked two sixes and did the final rites against the Royals. The skipper has been quite aggressive in the last few games and has been willing to play his natural game rather than be keen on rotating strikes.

Rowman Powell did not have anything to do in the previous game with the bat or bowl as he wasn’t needed. He is likely to keep his place in the side. The West Indian has played some breathtaking shots in the final overs with his brute power and he will be looking to make an impact if he gets a chance with the bat.

All-rounders: Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur

Lalit Yadav played some crucial innings at the start of the tournament for the Delhi Capitals. He can also bowl some good lines and lengths with the ball and hence, he will have a big role to play as an all-rounder, too. With 137 runs in 11 games, Yadav will be looking to ensure he makes the most out of the chances in the upcoming games.

Axar Patel bowled just two overs in the previous game where he was taken to the cleaners and he conceded 25 runs. However, he remains a vital cog in the playing XI and can bowl at different stages of the game. He will be looking to recover from his previous outing and get his bowling rhythm back.

Shardul Thakur, despite not being among the wickets regularly, hasn’t conceded many runs and he bowled an economical spell in the previous game as well. The right-arm seamer finished with 0 for 27 in his four overs and has taken the responsibility on his shoulders in the death overs.

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Chetan Sakariya, Anrich Nortje

Kuldeep Yadav has taken the most wickets for the Delhi Capitals this season with 18 scalps to his name but has struggled to find breakthroughs in the last two games. The left-arm spinner finished with 0 for 20 in his three overs in the previous game and Delhi Capitals will look to him more for wickets.

Chetan Sakariya has been quite impressive since returning to the playing XI for the Delhi Capitals and he was the standout bowler in the previous game. The left-arm seamer picked up 2 for 23 in his four overs and has been bowling some tight lines to the batters as well to making sure they cannot free their arms.

Anrich Nortje was back among the wickets for the Delhi side in the previous game despite going for a few and that will be good signs for the South African moving forward in the tournament. The right-arm quick finished with 2 for 39 in his four-over spell against the Royals and generated good speeds as well.

Delhi Capitals’ likely playing XI against Punjab Kings: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant, Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Anrich Nortje, Chetan Sakariya, Kuldeep Yadav
