New franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) stunned the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they recorded the fourth-highest successful run-chase in the tournament’s history in Match 7 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. LSG reached the target of 211 set by CSK in the last over with overseas batters Quinton de Kock and Evin Lewis smashing fifties to win the match for their side by six wickets.

Earlier, skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to field first. LSG made just one change from their previous match with Andrew Tye replacing Mohsin Khan. CSK replaced all the three Kiwi players from the last game with Moeen Ali, Dwaine Pretorius, and Mukesh Choudhary finding a place in the line-up. Robin Uthappa slammed a half-century off just 25 deliveries while Moeen Ali and Shivam Dube notched up 35 and 49 runs respectively. MS Dhoni and captain Ravindra Jadeja took CSK to a huge total of 210 at the end.

Chasing a massive target, Rahul amassed 40 runs off 26 balls with wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock scoring 61 off 45 deliveries. Manish Pandey again disappointed as he registered his second single-digit score in consecutive matches. Evin Lewis then took charge as he hammered the fastest fifty of this IPL, off just 23 balls with young Ayush Badoni again impressing with his cameo of 19 off just nine balls which included two sixes. For his match-winning whirlwind half-century, Evin Lewis was adjudged the Player of the Match.
