Mumbai Indians suffered their fifth consecutive defeat after going down against the Punjab Kings by 12 runs in IPL 2022 clash in Pune on April 13. MI snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after a middle-order collapse in the death overs that saw their run chase derail.

At one point, it seemed as if the five-time champions would finally add the first points to their tally when the middle-order superstar Suryakumar Yadav was in cruise control mode. Unfortunately for Mumbai, a pathetic mix-up between him and Kieron Pollard meant that the latter was short of his ground, which ended his stay at the crease before the steep asking rate got the better of the team.

Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket leaves Akash Ambani disappointed

In an image that has gone viral on social media, Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani looked tense and did not hesitate to show his disappointment after the unfortunate wicket of Suryakumar Yadav, which meant the end of the contest.

Yadav was timing the ball brilliantly and scored 43 runs from 30 deliveries at an impressive strike rate of 143.33. However, he mistimed one off PBKS pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada in the penultimate over and Odean Smith made absolutely no mistake while completing the catch as it was a mountain to climb for Mumbai from thereon.

Yadav’s wicket was what Mumbai could not afford at that point in time as it added more pressure on their inconsistent middle-order and the lower-order and even though Jaydev Unadkat did manage to clear the fence once in the final over, he was dismissed a couple of balls later.

The West Indies all-rounder was once again given the responsibility to bowl the final over after a forgettable performance against the Gujarat Titans where he was smoked for two straight sixes by Rahul Tewatia as GT came out on top in a last-ball thriller.
