The second qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was played between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 27 (Friday). It was yet another heartbreak for RCB as Jos Buttler single-handedly knocked them out of the tournament with a scintillating ton in the chase. Even the likes of Prasidh Krishna and Obed McCoy played an important role for the Royals with the ball earlier in the evening.

However, at the start of the match, an interesting incident took place where a Kohli fan invaded the pitch when their former skipper Virat Kohli was batting. The 33-year-old didn’t spend much time in the middle and could score only seven runs before getting out to Krishna in the second over of the innings.

During this period, a fan invaded the pitch breaching the security, and ran towards Kohli who was standing at the striker’s end. He got close to him and then ran away again celebrating it like an achievement. The fan was so jubilant that he celebrated throwing his fists in the air while also trying to run away from the security.

A Buttler special, knocks RCB out

As far as the match is concerned, RCB could only post 157 runs on the board in their 20 overs despite a sparkling half-century from the hero from their previous match, Rajat Patidar. He scored 58 runs off 42 deliveries but couldn’t bat deep on the occasion. Even Dinesh Karthik got out early which led to RCB not getting the required finishing kick and they ended with an under-par score.

In response, Jos Buttler took the opposition bowlers to the cleaners right from the word go. He batted sensibly after the powerplay overs and made sure he stayed in the middle right till the end. The Englishman slammed his fourth ton of the season and remained unbeaten on 106 off 60 balls as the Royals booked their place in the final of IPL 2022.
