IPL 2022: 5 Players who had a great comeback season this year

Quite often it’s said, cricket is a game of momentum, which certainly has a huge impact on the player’s performance. When the player is going through rough patches in his career, he doesn’t feel confident in his abilities and fails on most occasions. However, it’s completely different, when he gets backing from his captain and team management, and when he does well, the momentum drives the player to continue his fine performances. The same case has been observed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well, which consists of experienced Indian as well as overseas players. The players are on the lookout to perform well in the tournament, in order to prove their merit on a competitive stage. It also helps some players, who have been overlooked to make a comeback to their respective national sides. 5 Players who had a great comeback season in IPL 2022 1. Deepak Hooda Deepak Hooda. In the 2021 edition, he featured in 12 matches for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) team and could contribute only 160 runs at an average of 16. However, in the ongoing IPL 2022, Hooda has been one of the finest batters of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with 406 runs in 14 appearances at an average of 31.23, and a strike rate of 133.55. He has four fifties in this season, which is more than what he had until 2021 season combined. If the wickets have fallen early in the powerplay overs, the 27-year has shown terrific composure to build the innings and steer the team in fine fashion. In this season, he has been able to convert his starts into a big scores, which has certainly helped the team to secure crucial victories. 2. Wriddhiman Saha Wriddhiman Saha (Photo Source: Twitter) One of the most accomplished gloveman, Wriddhiman Saha has been a part of the IPL since 2008 and has been contributing well to the team’s cause. However, he scored only 131 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in nine matches at an average of 14.55 and a low strike rate of 93.57. In the 2022 auction, Saha was picked by the Gujarat Titans (GT). However, he was not the first-choice wicket-keeper by the team management. He was called in as a replacement for the out-of-form Aussie cricketer, Matthew Wade, and made an immediate impact. Until the completion of the league stage, the 37-year garnered a total of 312 runs at an average of 39, and a strike rate of 124.80, with three fifties. Saha has been a key force providing a good start to the team at the opening slot, and helping the team to finish at the top two spots and qualifying for the playoffs. 3. David Warner David Warner. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Aussie great, David Warner is the leading overseas run-scorer in the IPL with over 5800 runs. He played a key role in the SRH’s title victory in the 2016 season. However, he was dropped from the side due to average performance with 195 runs in eight appearances in the last edition. After being snubbed from the side, he was not retained by the franchise as well. The Delhi Capitals (DC) availed his services, which certainly helped the side to do well in IPL 2022. Arriving a little late, Warner has accumulated 427 runs in 11 innings at an average of 53.38. In this pursuit, the 35-year has scored five fifties and has a top score of 92*. Throughout the season, Warner has played an anchor role for Capitals, which has helped the team to still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs. 4. After doing well in the home series against England, he followed it with an away series against India. As a result, the momentum continued in IPL 2022 as well. In 13 matches of the ongoing edition for SRH, Pooran has smashed 301 runs at an average of 43 and a top score of 64*. Along with Aiden Markram, he has stitched important partnerships to win the matches for his team. In the last season, the Caribbean batter had scored only 85 runs at an average of 7.72, with 32 as his highest score. So, 2022 has certainly proved to be a confidence boosting season for him. 5. Kuldeep Yadav Kuldeep Yadav. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The talented wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav was dropped from the Indian team due to his bad form and did not get enough opportunities with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as well in the last two editions. In the 2021 edition, Yadav only picked up one wicket in five appearances. Along with lack of wicket-taking abilities, the injury concerns also broke his confidence. However, he was picked by DC for IPL 2022 in the mega auction. With the team management already giving him assurance of featuring in all their league matches, the Kanpur-born spinner has looked at his best of the abilities. In 13 matches, Yadav has picked up a total of 20 wickets at an economy of 8.45, with the best figures of 4/14. He has emerged as Capital’s most successful bowler, and has been used by the captain Rishabh Pant in all the match situations.
