In recent practice sessions, the Royal Challengers Bangalore played a series of match scenarios. The squad prepared for the forthcoming IPL 2022 by simulating three scenarios. Head Coach Sanjay Bangar suggested that the match simulation scenarios will help in creating a stronger bond among the team members.
A target of 80-90 runs was established in the first scenario, which resembled the opening 10 overs of an innings. Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat, the top-order batsmen, were entrusted with the challenge of reducing the target. Siddharth Kaul and Karn Sharma, both of whom are experienced IPL bowlers, were tasked with the responsibility of bowling the last parts of the 10-over simulation.
“What we are trying to do, is like a rehearsal because there are new players entering into our setup. It also helps in giving familiarity with each other. For instance, in the first scenario, we have Faf and Anuj batting together, so they have not batted together ever. This is going to be the first chance for both of them to understand each other’s body language, how they call, which are the areas they want to score off. All of that communication tends to kick in now,” Bangar told the RCB Social Media.
Du Plessis and Rawat chased with ease and went past the target, scoring a whopping 117 runs in the 10 overs. The skipper remained unbeaten on 77 and Rawat was able to score 44 before being dismissed in the last over.
It’s only a scenario, but I’m happy to get runs on the board: Sherfane Rutherford
Sherfane Rutherford and Dinesh Karthik had to achieve a 100-run target in an eight-over period from 12 to 20 in the second scenario. Despite a fifty coming off from Rutherford’s bat, the duo could only chase down 80 runs as Kaul fulfilled his duties with the ball well and restricted them from achieving the target.
“It’s only a scenario, but I’m happy to get runs on the board, which can give me some confidence. I think the guys bowled well, credit to them. I think, you know, there is always room to improve. Well, I love to hit sixes, it’s good when I can actually do it in a practice match and even transfer it to a game, so yeah it’s good for me,” Rutherford, talking about the match simulation, said.
Praising Dinesh Karthik, who was his partner during his innings, he said: “He was just telling me to keep going, keep it simple. I mean he is someone who is very cool, very relaxed. I think I was batting around him, and he was encouraging me, so that is good to see.”
The third and final match scenario put the bottom-order to test as Karn Sharma, Chama Milind and Aneeshwar Gautam were given the task to score 40 runs in overs 16-20.
