The 20-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) all-rounder Riyan Parag is looking forward to share the dressing room with veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Parag wants to ‘pick the brains’ of the 35-year-old in the upcoming 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran spinner will add experience to the squad apart from his bowling skills for the franchise. RR managed to bag Ashwin at a cost of INR five crore after an aggressive bidding war with Delhi Capitals.

Meanwhile, Parag will be involved in his fourth season of the IPL when his team starts their campaign in Pune against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 29 (Tuesday). The cricketer from Guwahati already has 30 IPL matches under his belt. The allrounder was bought back by the Royals at a cost of INR 3.80 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction and will be looking to provide his best services to the franchise.

Talking about Parag’s numbers in IPL, he has scored 286 runs in 30 matches. The middle-order batter has an average of almost 17 and plays with a strike rate of 118.53. He has also stroked a half-century in the tournament. With the ball, Riyan Parag has managed to take three wickets.

‘I will definitely carry a red ball’: Riyan Parag

Coming back to his excitement to meet Ravi Ashwin, Riyan Parag termed the former as one of the best ever off-spinners. Interestingly, Parag also stated that he will carry a red ball with him during the IPL as well to get some tips from Ashwin.

“That will definitely be Ashwin… If not the best ever, he’s like one of the best off-spinners going around in the world,” Parag, a spin-bowling all-rounder said in a release issued by his franchise. I’ll definitely try to carry a red ball with me in the tournament so that I can get a few tips,” Parag was quoted by India Today.

“But even with the white ball, I think if I can pick his brains on the varieties and all the mysteries. I think my white-ball bowling is going to be much better after the season. Why this team means so much to me is because of the very family vibe, where everyone takes care of you, everyone is very friendly and approachable,” he said while quarantining ahead of the season,” he added.
