Another day and another nail-biting clash in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022! This time it was a low-scoring thriller as Royal Challengers Bangalore had a hard time chasing 129 against Kolkata Knight Riders. The contest proceeded like a roller-coaster as RCB lost wickets at regular intervals but the scoring rate was always in control. RCB eventually won the contest by three wickets at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, one of the highlights of the game was Sherfane Rutherford’s dismissal in the 18th over of the game. The West Indies international showcased remarkable resilience and took the game deep. However, veteran New Zealand pacer Tim Southee accounted for his wicket, turning the tide in KKR’s favour. Notably, Rutherford was dismissed courtesy of a sensational catch from wicketkeeper Sheldon Jackson.
Sherfane Rutherford’s dismissal could have been a turning point in the game
In order to bring the target down, the southpaw went for a big shot but the ball took the inside edge and went to the right of Jackson. The wicketkeeper showcased remarkable agility to make a full-length dive and pull off a stunning one-handed catch. Needless to mention, KKR fielders were elated as Rutherford was going well in the middle. The Caribbean batter was eventually dismissed after scoring 28 off 40 deliveries.

It must be noted that Sheldon has been sensational behind the stumps this season. He has been assigned the wicketkeeping duties despite England international Sam Billings being in the playing XI. The 35-year-old has so far paid off the trust of the team management and would like to continue his good work as the tournament progresses.
Meanwhile, Sheldon’s efforts eventually went in vain as the Bengaluru-based side eventually crossed the line with four balls to spare. Dinesh Karthik and Harshal Patel played some handy shots towards the end as RCB recorded their first win in the competition. On the other hand, KKR, who defeated CSK in the season opener, suffered their first defeat in IPL 2022.
