The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kickstarted on March 26, 2022, and all the drama and entertainment that the league has provided the cricketing fans around the globe in all these years is back in full swing. It’s already been a week since the best T20 league in the world started and already the IPL lovers have witnessed some good matches. Both high-scoring and low-scoring thrillers have taken place in the 2022 edition so far.

For the second time after the 2011 season, ten teams have participated in the cash-rich league. New franchises – Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT) – made their debuts in the tournament under the leadership of skippers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, respectively. The new format has also been introduced in this edition with five teams each divided into two virtual groups. New teams GT and LSG have got off the mark as they have registered a victory already.

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have got off to the worst possible start in their IPL history. The team, led by the new captain Ravindra Jadeja, has lost both of its first two games which happened for the first time ever. Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered their opening game hoodoo yet again, as they lost their first match of the new edition for the tenth season running.

Perennial underachievers Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have played two games so far with a win and a loss. 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) started their campaign with a bang against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they defeated the Orange Army comfortably. With two wins in three matches, KKR is sitting at the top of the table with four points.

Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Knight Riders (KKR), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are also off the mark in the league. The tournament has already witnessed some records getting broken and milestones being created. Dwayne Bravo surpassed Lasith Malinga to become the highest wicket-taker in the league’s history while Andre Russell appeared in his 400th T20 match.

MS Dhoni completed the milestone of 7000 T20 runs as he became the sixth Indian to achieve this landmark. Umesh Yadav with his fiery pace bowling registered his best IPL figures of 4/23 against PBKS. The pacer has certainly bowled with fire in the opening three games for KKR in IPL 2022.
