The two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to beat the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI)  at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on May 9 (Monday). MI, on the back of some excellent bowling from senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah, managed to restrict KKR to 165/9. However, they failed to chase down the target and handed KKR a victory by 52 runs.

MI decided to have a bowl first after winning the toss. The KKR openers Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane gave a decent start to their team before Kumar Kartikeya scalped both the openers. After that, it was just a one-man show from Indian pacer Bumrah as the right-arm speedster gave away just ten runs in his four overs and took five big wickets to break the backbone of KKR.

MI kept losing wickets at regular intervals

MI skipper Rohit Sharma is having a torrid time in IPL 2022 and he got out cheaply once again. It was the wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan who scored an excellent half-century but apart from him, none of the batters even managed to cross the 20-run mark as MI kept losing wickets at the regular intervals.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for KKR as he scalped three wickets and gave away only 22 runs in his quota. Apart from Cummins, Tim Southee, Varun Chakravarthy, and Andre Russell were the successful bowlers for KKR.

After tonight’s encounter, KKR managed to reach the seventh spot in the points table with five wins in 12 matches, Meanwhile, the five-time champions are having a horrible time in IPL 2022 and are currently placed last in the points table with just two wins.
