Rajasthan Royals (RR) managed to come on top in a group stage match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 18 (Monday). It came down to the last over, with RR keeping their nerves and winning the match by seven runs in the end. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was adjudged the Player of the Match for his excellent bowling.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl. Openers Jos Buttler (103 off 61 balls) put up a 97-run opening partnership with Devdutt Padikkal (24 off 18 balls). Buttler then teamed up with captain Sanju Samson to add 67 runs for the second wicket, taking the Royals past the 150 mark in the 15th over.

However, KKR made a strong comeback in the match with batter Riyan Parag, Karun Nair, and Ashwin failing to get going. West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer (26 off 13 balls) ensured that RR cross the 200-run mark. For KKR, Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers, scalping two wickets in his four-over quota.

KKR were looking comfortable in their chase

Excellent batting display from Aaron Finch (58 off 28 balls) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (85 off 51 balls) ensured that RR had a tough time. However, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal turned the match on its head as he picked up a hat-trick in his last over.

Apart from Finch and Iyer, Umesh Yadav contributed 21 off 9 for KKR. However, that was not enough for the two-time champions to pin down RR. For RR, Chahal was the pick of the bowlers, scalping five wickets in his four-over quota. After winning today’s match, RR claimed the second spot in the points table. Meanwhile, GT (first), LSG (third), and RCB (fourth) complete the top four.
