There was a big drama in the Indian media about the involvement of the players as well as the owners of Chennai Super Kings in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. Even the name of MS Dhoni came in front. There were allegations on the cricketer to fix some matches in 2013 and was claimed to have contacts with a bookie.

SP Kumar was appointed as the investigator of the case, and found in his investigation that a bookie named Kitty confessed that the team principal of CSK Gurunath Meiyappan had conversations with him regarding fixing some games for cash.

The saga grabbed headlines back then and subsequently, Meiyappan was found guilty and was banned for life by the BCCI for his role in betting. After having multiple hearings in Supreme Court, the Chennai Super Kings alongside Rajasthan Royals were suspended from IPL for two years in July 2015 by the Justice Lodha Committee.
