The Delhi Daredevils rode on their young guns to fire them to an important win over the in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad. The mammoth 7-wicket win sees the Daredevils ascend on their slow yet steady climb up the table. David Warner proved to be effective with his trusted lieutenant Shikhar Dhawan coming up with the goods once again. However, as mentioned earlier, it was the likes of Quinton de Kock, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson that ensured that the Daredevils cruised to a victory with 11 deliveries to spare.

1. Warner and Dhawan get SRH off to a flier:

For the most part in the tournament, the Sunrisers have rode on the back of the heroics of their left-handed opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner. Once again, the duo produced what was expected of them courtesy of some virtuoso batting. Warner drew first blood as he smashed the ball to all parts in quick time. He smashed a quickfire 46 off just 30 deliveries before being castled by the wily Jayant Yadav. Dhawan remained at the crease for slightly longer before he too was dismissed for 34 off 37.

2. SRH crumble around Williamson:

Kane Williamson joined in Dhawan with the Sunrisers in a perfect position to post a massive score. However, the major issue was the fact that Williamson continued losing partners at the other end. After depositing one into the stands, Yuvraj Singh fell for 8 before Moises Henriques was dismissed a first ball duck by Mohammad Shami. Deepak Hooda also lost his wicket before Kane Williamson himself fell in the penultimate over, thereby allowing the Daredevils bowlers to restrict them to just 146.

3. Quinton de Kock on the rampage yet again:

Quinton de Kock may be just 23 years of age and resembles someone who is just moving out of his teenage years. However, despite his young age, the wicketkeeper-batsman once again assumed the responsibility thrust on him by playing yet another invaluable knock. He discharged the Sunrisers bowling attack by smashing the variety pace attack. Moreover, he also cashed in on some poor bowling from Barinder Sran in particular as he coasted to a well-made 30-ball 44. His compilation included 5 boundaries and two sixes.

4. Henriques’ double strike pegs Daredevils back:

Despite the fall of Mayank Agarwal, the Daredevils were on their merry way towards a comfortable win until Moises Henriques was handed the ball by his skipper in the 10th over. It turned out to be a rather ill-fated 10th over for the Delhi Daredevils as they were to lose two of their prized assets. First to fall was Karun Nair after the latter was castled by an Henriques yorker on the leg stump. Nair’s defenses were well and truly breached as he made the long walk back to the dugout. Unfortunately, two deliveries later, Quinton de Kock also found himself on the way back following a comedy of errors from the umpire Erasmus, a call that saw de Kock sent back rather controversially.

5. Daredevils complete crucial win:

Although it wasn’t necessarily the easiest of wins, the Daredevils seemingly cruised to a win. Moreover, what would have certainly overjoyed their mentor Rahul Dravid would have been the fact that they were guided home by young guns Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. The latter in particular was impressive as he dealt with the dangerous Mustafizur Rahman with utmost professionalism. In the 20-year old’s final over, Pant smashed him for a boundary and a six, thus ensuring a win for the Daredevils. While David Warner seemed to have missed the trick by withholding Mustafizur until it was too late, Sanju Samson sealed the win with a massive six off the bowling of Yuvraj Singh.
