Gujarat Lions (GL) marched into the playoff after they managed to easily beat defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 6 wickets in the crucial fixture at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. The MI side posted a decent total of 172/8 in 20 overs after being put into bat by the home side. Nitish Rana (70 off 36 balls) the most outstanding batsman for the visitors. Skipper Rohit Sharma (30 from 17 balls) and Krunal Pandya (33 from 31 balls) also made handy contributions. GL, in reply, faced no problem in chasing down the target. Brendon McCullum (48 from 27 balls) and Suresh Raina (58 from 36 balls) played brilliant knocks on the top and set the platform for the Dwayne Smith (37 from 23 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (21 form 15 balls) to give the finishing touches.
