The 9th edition of the IPL has already seen some tremendous ups and downs in the points table. Almost half way through the tournament, it is still an open contest and every team has their chance to qualify for the playoffs, the Kings XI Punjab, though, will have to win all their games in their bid to do so.
With a resounding win over the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Mumbai Indians have leapfrogged to the 3rd position in the points table with 4 wins in 8 matches. The only point to note here is that Mumbai has played the most number of matches in the tournament so far. The Knight Riders, also on 8 points, maintained their second spot in the table kudos to a healthy net run rate, despite their loss against the Mumbai Indians. The Gujarat Lions will have a chance to consolidate their top spot if they win against the Rising Pune Supergiants at Pune. However, if the RPS wins, they might break into the top 4.
IPL 9 Points Table:
Teams | MAT | WON | PTS | Net RR |
GL | 6 | 5 | 10 | 0.037 |
KKR | 6 | 4 | 8 | 0.611 |
MI | 8 | 4 | 8 | -0.104 |
DD | 5 | 3 | 6 | 0.244 |
SRH | 6 | 3 | 6 | -0.086 |
RPS | 6 | 2 | 4 | 0.32 |
RCB | 5 | 2 | 4 | 0.23 |
KXIP | 6 | 1 | 2 | -1.174 |
The Orange Cap sits comfortably with the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli, with 367 runs in 5 matches is country mile ahead of the rest in the list. MI captain Rohit Sharma, with his match winning knock of 68 against KKR has grabbed the second spot in the list with 298 runs. Though only 2 runs separate him and Gautam Gambhir’s run tally, who is at the third spot after his knock of 59 in the losing cause at Mumbai.
If Ajinkya Rahane adds another 76 to his aggregate of 223, he will take the second spot from Rohit Sharma. Rahane, who has been in top form, will have his opportunity tonight against the Gujarat Lions.
