The 9th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has now almost reached the mid-way stage and from here no teams can afford to lose matches. A defeat from here would only make things tougher for the sides on their road to the qualifiers. Such has been the case with the Kings XI Punjab, who were handed over their 5th defeat in the season by Mumbai Indians last night. Only if they afford to win all their following games, they can make it to the playoffs.
The Mumbai Indians with their win last night have swapped places with the RCB in the points table but have a poorer run rate of -0.268. The table stands pretty much the same apart from that. The key point to notice is that Mumbai have played the most number of matches, that is 7 matches for their 6 points. The Kolkata Knight Riders sit comfortably at the top of the table with 8 points and a healthy net run rate, followed by the Gujarat Lions, Delhi Daredevils, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He is followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner, who will have a chance to get it back tonight in the game against Rising Pune Supergiants. Rohit Sharma’s duck in the other game saw a dip in his average. On the other hand, a good knock by Ambati Rayudu against the Kings XI has seen him break into the top ten with 217 runs.
