The IPL 2022 mega auction is underway and we are done and dusted with the players in the marquee list. On expected lines, Shreyas Iyer went big under the hammer as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) got him on board for a whooping INR 12.25 crore. Both Kagiso Rabada and Shikhar Dhawan went to Punjab Kings after igniting bidding wars.

For the unversed, the marquee set is an elite category of gun players whose turn to go under the hammer comes in the first set. They are basically the first 10 players to under the hammer. As far as IPL 2022 mega auction is concerned, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Pat Cummins, Quinton de Kock, Shikhar Dhawan, Faf du Plessis, Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Shami and David Warner were the 10 names in the marquee list.

Meanwhile, Dhawan’s name popped out first in the auction pool and on expected lines, teams went after the veteran opener. His former side Delhi Capitaks, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals showed keen interest in the southpaw but the Kings eventually bought his services for INR 8.25 crore. Ashwin was next in the list and he also attracted substantial bids. Having played for Delhi Capitals in the last couple of seasons, the veteran off-spinner eventually went to Rajasthan Royals for INR 5 crore. IPL 2022 Auction Live Updates.

Australia’s Test skipper Pat Cummins, who bagged INR 15.5 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2019 auction, didn’t get such high bids this time around. KKR managed to reacquire his services for a substantial INR 7.25 crore. Then came Kagiso Rabada’s name and the eyes of many franchises lit up. The likes of Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans went after him, with an intent of breaking the bank and the former side eventually signed him for INR 9.25 crore.

Shreyas Iyer first player to touch the 10-crore mark

New Zealand pacer Trent Boult also went big under the hammer. He’ll play for Rajasthan Royals this season, who got him on board for INR 8 crore. One of the most sought-after names in this auction event, Shreyas Iyer was the first player to touch the 10-crore mark in the day. Kolkata Knight Riders bagged his services for a staggering INR 12.25 crore.

Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was the seventh name in the marquee list and needless to mention, multiple sides went after him. After a stiff battle with several franchises, Gujarat Titans signed him for INR 6.25 crore.

One of the most consistent openers in IPL over the years, Faf du Plessis was the next in the list. With the former South African captain being in the latter stages of his career, many reckoned he won’t fetch substantial bids. However, that didn’t happen as Royal Challengers Bangalore bagged his services for a whooping INR 7 crore.

Quite surprisingly, Quinton de Kock wasn’t among the most expensive players in the marquee list. While many sides went after the wicketkeeper-batter, Lucknow Super Giants got him for INR 6.75 crore, which is nothing but a steal. The list ended with David Warner, one of the most consistent batters in the tournament’s history. The former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain ignited the bidding war between Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals for a while. However, the Capitals eventually got him on board for INR 6.25 crore.
