Harpreet Brar’s beaming smile will be the lasting image from the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The left-arm spinner from the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side gobbled up the three behemoths of the RCB batting line up- Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers to spin his side to a victory over the Bangalore outfit.
In the 4 overs that he bowled, Brar gave away just 19 runs and scalped three wickets to shatter the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side. For RCB, only two top-order batsmen made noteworthy contributions with the willow. While batting legend Virat Kohli scored a sedate 35, Rajat Patidar scored a 30-ball 31. Harshal Patel contributed a brisk 31 off only 13 deliveries lower down the order.
None of the other willow wielders from the RCB side could put forth a meaningful contribution as the Bangalore side went down by a margin of 34 runs to the Punjab Kings side.
KL Rahul’s scintillating 91* and Chris Gayle’s blistering 46 people PBKS to 179/5
For the Punjab Kings (PBKS), it was the KL Rahul show that allowed them to post a competitive total on the board. The Punjab skipper batted through the entire 20 overs and scored a blistering 91* at a strike rate of 159.65 to help his side post a total of 179/5 on the board.
Apart from Rahul, ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle also pulverized the RCB bowling attack. In a blitzkrieg that lasted 24 deliveries, Gayle helped himself to 46 to shatter Virat Kohli and his men. Gayle’s innings was laced with six fours and two sixes.
Harpreet Brar also contributed a cameo of 25* runs at the fag end of the innings for the Punjab side. For the Bangalore outfit, New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers. In the 3 overs that he bowled, Jamieson scalped two wickets and gave away 32 runs.
And with this victory, the Punjab Kings side has moved to 5th place in the points table, while the Bangalore side is occupying 3rd place.
