After 40 riveting overs, both the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ended up with the same score, 159. And as a result, we had the first Super Over finish in the 14th edition of the IPL. In the Super Over, the Sunrisers Hyderabad side scored 7 runs. Axar Patel did a tidy job in the Super Over, did not concede any extras, and bowled a stump-to-stump line.
And in reply, the Delhi Capitals chased down the target off the last delivery. Rishabh Pant’s brave reverse sweep off the bowling of Rashid Khan tilted the scales in favor of the Delhi side.
Earlier, Kane Williamson’s ‘cool head’ allowed the ‘Orange Army’ to match the total that the Delhi Capitals managed to put up on the board. The New Zealand batting maestro scored a classic 66* off 51 deliveries and acted as the catalyst of the Hyderabad batting lineup. On a pitch where the ball was stopping on the batsman, Williamson produced a classic with the willow in hand.
And, Jonny Bairstow once again provided a fiery start for the ‘Orange Army’. The right-handed England batsman smashed a quickfire 38 at a strike rate of 211.11 to send the Delhi side on the back foot. David Warner and Virat Singh fell early for the Sunrisers Hyderabad side.
For the Delhi Capitals, the pick of the bowlers was Avesh Khan. In the 4 overs that he bowled, the right arm pacer scalped three wickets and gave away 34 runs.
Led by a sparkling 53 off 39 deliveries from youngster Prithvi Shaw, the Delhi Capitals (DC) posted a total of 159/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Apart from Shaw, the likes of skipper Rishabh Pant and Aussie batsman Steven Smith also contributed vital runs with the willow.
While Pant scored a 27-ball 37, Smith helped himself to 34 runs at a strike rate of 136.00. Siddarth Kaul was the pick of the bowlers for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side. The right-arm pacer scalped 2 wickets in his quota of 4 overs and gave away 31 runs.
With this victory, the Rishabh Pant-led side has now moved to 2nd place in the points table, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad side is occupying 7th place.
Ravindra Jadeja’s heroics help CSK wallop RCB
The entire narrative of this match was built around the MS Dhoni vs Virat Kohli clash, but the man who managed to steal the limelight was Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja lived up to the term ‘all-rounder’, and contributed in every department of the game for the ‘Men in Yellow’.
With the willow in hand, Jadeja pummeled a rampaging 62* off just 28 balls to help CSK post a gargantuan total of 191/4 on the board. Harshal Patel felt Jadeja’s wrath in the final over, as the CSK left-hander smashed him for as many as 37 runs.
Apart from Jadeja, the CSK opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis also contributed vital runs with the bat in hand. While Gaikwad scored a 25-ball 33, du Plessis scored a sedate half-century.
In reply, Devdutt Padikkal went absolutely berserk for the RCB side and smashed 34 runs off just 15 deliveries. However, the other RCB willow wielders did not step up to the occasion. And in the end, all that the RCB side could muster was a paltry total of just 122/9, and the Virat Kohli led outfit went down to Chennai by a margin of 69 runs.
Jadeja was the wrecker in chief with the ball too. The left-arm spinner scalped 3 wickets and gave away just 13 runs in his quota of 4 overs. And, with this win, the Chennai Super Kings have moved to the top of the points table, while the Bangalore side currently occupies 3rd place.
