IPL: Wasim Jaffer picks his strongest all-time XI of the tournament
Jaffer picked MS Dhoni as the captain of his all-time XI.
Former Indian batter and cricket expert Wasim Jaffer has picked his all-time Indian Premier League (IPL)XI. Jaffer, who has represented India in 31 Test matches and amassed a total of 1944 runs at an average of 34.11, picked some of the most prominent short-format players including Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni, and Suresh Raina among others.
The former Indian batter has gone with the opening combination of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul. Both of them have established themselves as two of the most prominent openers in the history of IPL. While Gayle has played a total of 142 games, Rahul has also featured in 109 matches in IPL so far with his latest team being Lucknow Super Giants.
Jaffer picks MS Dhoni as his captain instead of Rohit Sharma
Speaking to CricTracker’s ‘Not Just Cricket’ show powered by sky247.net, Wasim Jaffer picked former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, Mr IPL Suresh Raina and legendary MS Dhoni in the middle order. Jaffer has also picked Dhoni as the team wicketkeeper and captain. It must be noted that all three stalwarts have immensely contributed to their franchise over the years.
While Kohli has played only for RCB throughout his IPL career, Raina featured for Gujarat Lions apart from Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni, four-time IPL winner, played for Rising Pune Supergiant when CSK was suspended for a couple of years. In the all-rounder department, Wasim Jaffer picked some of the most destructive batters including Andre Russell and Hardik Pandya.
The cricket expert also went for a balanced bowling line-up including Rashid Khan, Jasprit Bumrah, and Sri Lanka legendary pacer Lasith Malinga who is the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL. However, he was confused between picking Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal as the second spinner. Wasim Jaffer also stated that he couldn’t pick the likes of David Warner, AB de Villiers and IPL’s most successful captain Rohit Sharma.
