The tenth edition of IPL has already reached its latter part witnessing a lot of enticing and jaw-dropping encounters, some teams have already sealed their spots for the playoffs, some still fighting up for it whereas some teams are already out of the race for the trophy this season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore was the first team to deal with the woes of shabby performance with their eighth loss and thus being out of the tournament. After Mumbai Indians beating them up by 5 wickets, RCB’s dream of qualifying for the playoffs is all over with five points from 11 games. When the previous edition’s finalists suffer such fate, the star-studded team led by Virat Kohli would certainly feel depressed.
But, talking about RCB’s performance this season and how it will affect the present mindset of skipper Virat Kohli just before Champions Trophy 2017, Kedar Jadhav said that Virat is always very positive and determined enough.
“Virat Kohli has always been positive and he stays same after scoring a ton or getting out for a low score and the current IPL results won’t affect him during the Champions Trophy 2017 in England,” said Jadhav in an interview with TimesNow.
He also added that Virat is like a machine, whether he scores a ton or he gets out at ten, he never skips his routines or his daily practices and thus he is a motivational figure to many. “He (Kohli) lives like a machine. He follows his daily regime very vigorously and is extremely professional, and people can learn this from him,” Jadhav added.
Since returning from the shoulder injury, Kohli himself is going through a lean patch with the bat, according to his own very high standards. In seven IPL matches, he has scored 239 runs with three half-centuries which is nothing compared to his last year’s show where he slammed four centuries taking his team off to playoffs singlehandedly.
When he was asked if RCB was too dependent on the senior players, he replied, “The kind of form Virat, Gayle and ABD were in, everyone would like to believe on them. So maybe, we got flowed enough by that fact and the youngsters didn’t get enough chance to play and prove. Yes, we were much dependent on the seniors!”
The right-handed batsman wants to represent the national side in the Champions Trophy later on in June. He said he would love to take the responsibility like he had done in the past and continue to play at no.6 in the blue jersey.
“In past, I have played against England and in No 6 position, I have successfully ended two games. That would be the same role I would love to play, that role brings in pressure but as I said the more responsibility and pressure I can handle, it would bring the better out of me. I would be looking forward to Champions trophy!”
