Kings XI Punjab hosted a demoralized Delhi Daredevils side in the 36th match of the IPL at Mohali today. As it turned out, the home team completely steamrolled the visitors by 10 wickets and almost 13 Overs to spare. Glenn Maxwell won the toss and elected to field first.

It was a Sandeep Sharma show with the ball as he helped to dismiss the Daredevils under 17 overs. The visitors could only manage a paltry total of 67. Sandeep Sharma took a four-wicket haul and conceded only 20 runs. Axar Patel and Varun Aaron chipped in with a couple of wickets each. Hashim Amla and Kings XI Punjab chased down the Daredevils total with ease.

Martin Guptill even managed to score a half-century by hitting the final ball of their innings for a six. No prizes for guessing, Sandeep Sharma was adjudged as the man of the match for his exceptional four-wicket haul

Sandeep Sharma

The man of the match, Sandeep Sharma, was glad to perform like this on his home ground. The pace bowler credited the guidance from the coach, Bharat Arun, for his success.

I was feeling great. This is my home ground and I knew the conditions here. My coach inspired me a lot. I worked with Bharat Arun and he helped me a lot. I managed to hold onto it somehow (about that catch).

Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell was finally glad that they could put up a match-winning performance in front of their home crowd. Maxwell concluded by saying they would desire to keep the winning momentum in the upcoming matches especially at the business end of the tournament.

To put a performance like this in front of the home crowd is good for the boys and the team. It did play a lot slower (the pitch). Don’t see myself as a front-line bowler. If we can win enough games from here, it puts us in a good position.

Karun Nair

The stand-in skipper for the Daredevils was disappointed about the manners by which they lost. He pointed out that lack of intentions displayed by the players in the team. The triple centurion further added that the pitch wasn’t a 67 all out wicket except for the fact that it was pretty slow.

Disappointing. Don’t think it was a 67 all-out wicket. We lost too many wickets at the start. It was just a lack of intent, I guess. We didn’t get the kind of partnership we wanted. The team chat in the innings break was nothing much but we wanted to make them work for each run. I don’t think there was anything strange in the wicket. Slightly slow but wasn’t a 67 all-out wicket, as I said

With this win, Kings XI Punjab kept their hopes for getting into the playoffs alive. They move onto the fifth position of the IPL Points table. They gather eight points in nine games until now. Daredevils IPL campaign hit a massive setback with this loss as they faced their fifth successive loss this season.
