The IPL Auction is a place where dreams are made, fairytales are scripted but it is also a place where you come to realize that sell-by dates of cricketers- who were once the heartbeat or the X-factors of the Auction- has passed its expiry date. It has happened in the past where several high-profile cricketers- to the utter shock of many- attracted no bidders.

And, it happened again in last night’s auction when three-time Indian Premier League and an absolute veteran of the cash-rich league since its inception, Yusuf Pathan went unsold. Pathan, who was released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2020 Auction, attracted no bidders from any of the franchises, and for the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League, went unsold.

Irfan Pathan, former India bowler and Yusuf’s younger brother had a heartfelt message for his brother after he went unsold. Pathan took to Twitter where he wrote,”Small hiccups doesn’t define your career, you have been outstanding thru out. A real match-winner. Love you always Lala.”

Yusuf Pathan had two back-to-back disappointing seasons for SRH

Yusuf Pathan has been on a downward spiral as far as his batting is concerned. The Baroda all-rounder had back-to-back nightmarish outings in the Indian Premier League while playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the 2019 edition of the IPL, Pathan played ten matches in which he could just manage a total of just 40 runs at an average of 13.33 with the highest score being 16 not out. With the ball, the all-rounder bowled a sum total of just six balls in the entire season, going wicketless.

The 2018 season of the IPL wasn’t fruitful either as he could manage just 260 runs at an average of 28.88 without a single half-century. Speaking of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the orange army has always struggled for an Indian batting core and in order to achieve that, the Hyderabad-bases unit opted to invest in youngsters like Virat Singh and the current captain of the Indian U-19 team Priyam Garg.

Besides that, SRH also roped in Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh as a replacement for Shakib Al-Hasan. The other picks that Sunrisers gobbled were Abdul Samad, Sanjay Yadav and Bavanaka Sandeep and Fabian Allen.
