Irfan Pathan opens up on what MS Dhoni of 2011 would tell MS Dhoni of 2020

Chennai Super Kings had a dismal IPL season this year as they became the first team to be knocked out of the tournament. They failed to grab a spot in playoffs this year for the first time in the history of IPL. The three-time champions lacked in many aspects as they showed up on the field. However, the biggest relief for the CSK fans came when MS Dhoni stated clearly that he would be back to play for the team in the 2021 season.

The legendary Dhoni resumed playing competitive cricket after a gap of 14 long months. He struggled to perform with the bat, and his form invited a lot of criticism. He failed to get a single half-century in his bag and managed to produce only 200 runs at a dismal strike-rate of 116.27 and an average of 25. In the same light, former Indian bowler Irfan Pathan opined on Dhoni’s struggles.

Pathan mentioned what MS Dhoni of 2011 would tell the Dhoni of 2020. As per the southpaw, the MSD of the 2011 season would have definitely told the current Dhoni to perform better the next season and come up with better fitness and form.

A great comeback awaited by MS Dhoni

“But if we talk about the next season alone, I was thinking in my mind after seeing MS Dhoni playing the entire season for CSK, what the captain MS Dhoni of 2010 or 2011 would be telling the MS Dhoni of 2020 in this situation. He would have said to come next year with better fitness and performance, and it is clear that he will do that as well, that is the expectation,” said Irfan while speaking on Star Sports.

Pathan sounded hopeful that the CSK skipper would make a great comeback next year. It is pretty clear now that Dhoni will be coming back in the upcoming season. The captain, since the inaugural season, is not ready to leave the team in the struggling phase.

His “definitely not” after being asked whether it is his last match with CSK, during the toss, has caused a great sense of excitement among the fans. He would be awaited by people with utmost eagerness next year.
