Indian discard all-rounder Irfan Pathan recently posted a video on Facebook which showcases his performances in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy and the visuals surely bring back the flashes from the years gone by when he was at the peak of his powers. His swing is back to where it used to be and he looks destructive with the bat too.
A few days back, he was left stranded when none of the IPL franchises opted to bid for him in the player auction despite his stellar performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy. Amongst the Indian all-rounders, he was expected to bag a great deal, but to everyone’s surprise, he was not picked for any squad.
Nevertheless, he hasn’t let that disappoint him and has kept working hard on his game which is evident from the video. The new ball is again moving a long way with immaculate lines and lengths and he seems to be handling both spinners and pacers with the bat to knock them around to the boundaries.
In the days gone by, he has invested a lot of effort in improving his fitness and the results are reflecting the dedication. He is the third highest wicket-taker in the trophy so far with 7 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 31.14 and a superb economy rate of 4.54.
With the bat too, he has 108 runs to his name with the highest score of 50*. But the most pleasing thing for his fans is to see him run in and swing the ball the way he used to when he first made an appearance at the international stage. The out-swingers against the left-handers are deviating a lot which is his major weapon and occasionally he seems to swing it the other way too.
There can’t be a bigger delight for the fans if he can make a comeback in the Indian squad. He has been one of the most loved cricketers in the country despite being out of the squad for so long. Let’s hope he returns to the national side and makes the batsmen dance to his swing once more.
