‘Is it your happy 40 or 47?’ – Yuvraj Singh pulls Harbhajan Singh’s leg on his birthday

Harbhajan Singh, the Indian off-spinner, turned 40 years old on Friday, July 3. Though he hasn’t announced his retirement, it goes without saying that he has already played his last match for India. However, he has continued to weave magic in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran has been playing in the cash-rich league since the inaugural edition way back in 2008.

After plying his trade for the Mumbai Indians (MI) for 10 seasons in a row, he shifted to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018. He was also set to play in the upcoming IPL, which was earlier postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the very first year with MS Dhoni’s team, the tweaker tasted success as CSK went on to lift the title for the third time after 2010 and 2011.

In the meantime, on his 40th birthday, he was showered with wishes from the cricketing fraternity. Yuvraj Singh, his India and Punjab teammate, pulled his leg, calling him a 47-year-old. Both Yuvraj and Harbhajan flourished when Sourav Ganguly was the skipper of the national team.

Harbhajan first came to the limelight in 2001 when he became the first Indian bowler to get a hat-trick in Test cricket. He played in the three-match series against Australia and picked up 32 wickets, taking his team to a 2-1 victory. Harbhajan’s hat-trick came in the first innings of the second Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata where the hosts came back after being made to follow on.

Yuvraj, on the other hand, is one of the greatest all-rounders to have graced the game for Indian cricket. In 2007, he smashed the fastest T20I fifty off 12 balls against England and also hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over. Later in 2011, he became the Player of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup. In 2019, he retired from international cricket.
