Australian cricket icon Shane Warne passed away on 4th March 2022 because of a heart attack. Warne’s death has left a massive void in the cricketing world, with current and former cricketers, who played with, and against Warne offering their tributes to the Aussie bowling colossus.

India’s head coach and cricket legend Rahul Dravid stated that he had the privilege and honour of playing against Warne and also had the chance to get to know the Aussie personally. Dravid also added that playing alongside Warne is one of the highlights of his cricketing career.

“I had the privilege and honour to play against Shane Warne. More importantly the great privilege of getting to know him personally and playing with him and alongside him as a colleague, I think that will probably be one of the highlights of my cricketing career,” said Dravid in a video tweeted by the BCCI.

As long as cricket is played, Shane Warne will be remembered: Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid also added that Warne’s death feels like a personal loss to him. Adding that Warne’s departure hurts him, Dravid concluded by stating that Warne will be remembered as long as the sport of cricket is still played.

“Even if you didn’t meet him very often, he would make it feel like this was personal. It really feels like a personal loss. It’s something that really hurts; it’s sad. As long as the game is being played, someone like Shane Warne and Rodney Marsh will always be remembered,” concluded the Indian head coach.

Shane Warne is Australia’s most prolific bowler in Test match cricket and took a staggering 708 wickets in the format. The leg spinner is also the only Australian bowler to pick up more than 1000 wickets in international cricket as well.
