Rohit Sharma’s stint as the full-time Indian ODI captain started on a positive note as the ‘Men in Blue’ thrashed the West Indies with 6 wickets to spare in the opening ODI of the three-match series between the two sides.

Sharma also had a wonderful time making use of the Decision Review System (DRS). As many as three on-field decisions were overturned after the ‘Hitman’ used the DRS. And now, former Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has opened up on Sharma’s impressive use of the DRS.

Gavaskar said that DRS should be named Definitely Rohit System instead of Dhoni Review System. The 72-year-old also added that Sharma got his reviews spot on.

“Rohit Sharma got those reviews spot on. Earlier when Dhoni used to get more right than wrong, it was called as Dhoni Review System. Now you can term it as ‘Definitely Rohit System’,” said Sunil Gavaskar in a chat on Star Sports.

Rohit Sharma’s half-century helps India to dismantle West Indies in the first ODI

The West Indies put up a poor show in the 1st ODI. Batting first, the ‘Men in Maroon’ were bowled out for a total of 176. Apart from Jason Holder, who scored a valiant 57, not even a single batter from the West Indies side could even cross the 30-run mark.

For India, the spin bowling duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar combined to scalp 7 wickets between them. In reply, India cantered past the target with ease, winning the match with 6 wickets and as many as 22 overs to spare.

Rohit Sharma led from the front with the willow and scored a quickfire 60 at a strike rate of close to 120 at the top of the order. Apart from Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan also contributed 34* and 28 respectively. India currently leads the three-match ODI series 1-0. The 2nd ODI and 3rd ODI matches of the series will be played on 9th and 11th February respectively at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
