Even though Rajasthan Royals (RR) were handed a big defeat during their group stage encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against the Delhi Capitals, RR’s strategy to send Ravi Ashwin up the order worked for the Jaipur-based franchise. Coming in to bat at the number three position, the veteran all-rounder scored an excellent fifty to ensure that the Royals finish on a competitive total.

It must be noted that opener Jos Buttler fell early and Ashwin joined the other opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the middle. The duo then stitched a 43-run partnership for the second wicket off 32 balls with Ashwin going all guns blazing. The right-handed batter was aggressive right from the start before he was involved in another crucial 53-run partnership with Devdutt Padikkal as he completed his maiden T20 fifty.

I worked on my batting, transferring my weight forward: Ravi Ashwin

“Starting from the season, it was communicated to me that they’d be using me up the order. We had a few practice games also where I’d opened. I enjoyed it and have worked hard on my batting so it’s nice that whatever’s been worked on translated on the field. I was in a good batting rhythm just before the season could start,” said Ashwin as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“I worked on my batting, transferring my weight forward, switched my technique a bit, changed my bat swing a bit, and brought in some options into my game. It is making a difference a bit at least. That’s pleasing; pretty pleased with the knock today, but it didn’t come in a winning cause. Hopefully, I can take it forward,” he added.

Meanwhile, RR after losing their previous encounter are currently placed third in the points table with seven wins in 12 matches and they will take on the strong-looking Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next group stage encounter. The match will be played at the Brabourne Stadium on May 15 (Sunday).
