Amidst all the chaos that has clouded Indian cricket for the past few days, Virat Kohli had recently pledged his support to the newly appointed white-ball captain Rohit Sharma. Despite all the rumours, the Indian Test captain clearly stated that everything was fine between him and the Mumbai Indians skipper.

He even went on record to say that he would happily brace whatever vision the new limited-overs captain, as well as the coach Rahul Dravid, have for the team. While the entire captaincy fiasco did dent the hype among the Indian fans for the upcoming tour to South Africa, sanity prevailed after the 33-year-old cleared the air about him and Sharma.

Kohli’s move managed to impress the former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt. He said that it was important for Kohli to express his support for the 34-year-old, in order to maintain a good team environment.

The former Pakistan captain praised the two Indian players for being professional, and handling the situation. While speaking on his YouTube channel, Butt felt that they were expected to handle the situation in a mature way as the two of them have had illustrations careers so far.

“Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been match-winners for the Indian team”- Salman Butt

“It was very sensible from Virat Kohli. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been match-winners for the Indian team. Considering their illustrious careers, you expect them to handle such situations in this way. It is going to be very good for the team environment as well. It is great that Kohli has backed Sharma and that should have been the case anyway,” said Butt.

This ODI captaincy drama has been going on for over a week, and has managed to take the world by storm. Nevertheless, India’s skipper in the longest format of the game had nothing but positive things to say about his coach and teammate. The batting legend even said that he would continue to push the team in the right direction, regardless of his position in the team.

“My responsibility has always been to push the team in the right direction. It is something I have always looked to do, even before I became captain. So that mindset has never changed and it will never change,” Kohli had said.
