MS Dhoni is having a good 2019 with his bat and the fans got a glimpse of it again on Sunday as he pulled Chennai Super Kings (CSK) out of trouble and guided them to a strong position in the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Dhoni smashed 75 not out off 46 balls after coming out to bat with CSK at 27 for 3, taking the team total to 175 for 5 in 20 overs. Earlier, RR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and asked CSK to bat first.
The 37-year-old wicket-keeper-batsman was involved in three crucial partnerships with Suresh Raina (61 runs), Dwayne Bravo (56 runs) and Ravindra Jadeja (unbeaten 31 runs) to script a good turnaround for the CSK. Dhoni ended up hitting four sixes and as many fours at a phenomenal strike rate of 163 plus. Dhoni has scored 107 runs in three matches in this season so far and has continued from where he left last year (455 runs from 16 games). The CSK went on to win the game by 8 runs despite a late innings surge from the RR.
Dhoni, the destroyer
Former India opener Virender Sehwag was at his wittiest best while hailing Dhoni’s terrific knock on Twitter. Taking a cue from the CSK’s popular ‘Whistle Podu’ slogan, Sehwag said it was not ‘Whistle Podu’ from Dhoni but ‘Whistle Todu’ and ‘Whistle Fodu’ (‘Tod-fod’ in Hindi means to destroy) and conceded that it was something that he enjoyed fully. It was Dhoni’s 21 fifty in the IPL in 178 matches he played so far.

Not Whistle Podu, but that was Whistle Todu and Whistle Fodu from Dhoni.
Very very good to see#CSKvRR

Under Dhoni’s leadership, the CSK have started their title defence campaign with a bang in IPL 12. They defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals in their first two games and were looking strong against the RR as well. The CSK returned to the IPL last year after serving two seasons of suspension and straightaway won their third title to match Mumbai Indians’ feat. They are the only team to not lose a game in IPL 2019 so far.
