Dewald Brevis came into IPL 2022 with a lot of talks up around him and was picked by the Mumbai Indians for INR 3 Crores in the mega auction. The South African was quite impressive in the U19 World Cup this year where he finished as the top run-getter and was popularly called ‘Baby AB’ for his similarities with AB de Villiers.

However, he had a roller-coaster stint with the Mumbai Indians in his very first IPL season but has shown a lot of promising signs. Brevis played seven games this season for the Mumbai Indians scoring 161 runs at an average of 23, but his strike rate was quite good at 142.47. He hit a total of 11 sixes, including the highest score of 49 and was brilliant against spin bowling.

In fact, he hit some massive ones as well and showed the amount of strength he can generate which could be dangerous for the opponents. While speaking about his first IPL experience, Brevis lavished praises on his skipper Rohit Sharma despite Mumbai Indians not performing at their best in the tournament this season.

He really backs you and there’s no pressure he puts on you: Dewald Brevis

Brevis hailed Rohit for his captaincy and revealed how the latter backed the players on the field always. He added about the pressure factor getting diminished for the players under Rohit’s leadership and mentioned that the five-time IPL winning captain rather wants the players to enjoy their game on the field.

“I think it’s a player’s dream to play under his captaincy. He really backs you and there’s no pressure he puts on you. He wants you to go out there and enjoy it and to be yourself and to have fun on the field,” Dewald Brevis told on Rohit’s captaincy posted on MI Paltans Twitter page. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom of the points table of IPL 2022 after winning just four of their 14 games in the league stages.
