Virat Kohli will be playing in his 100th Test match when India meet Sri Lanka in the first game at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on March 4 making him the 12th Indian player to achieve this unique feat. In fact, Kohli would have already achieved this feat in South Africa back in January this year had he not missed the second Test due to upper back spasms.

Ahead of the iconic 100th Test match, former India head coach and one of Virat’s good friends Ravi Shastri has come forward with a ‘Tracer Bullet’ challenge video for wishing him luck.  ‘Tracer Bullet’ is one of Shastri’s famous catchphrases to describe a batter’s outstanding shot in the commentary box and the 1983 World Cup winner made maximum use of this opportunity as he paid tribute to the batting megastar.

100 reasons to celebrate Test match No. 100: Ravi Shastri

Taking to the micro-blogging site, Ravi Shastri shared a throwback video of Virat Kohli accepting his ‘tracer bullet’ challenge supposedly during the 2016-17 season. In the video, Shastri can be heard saying “He bowls a juicy half volley and he drives through the covers and it goes like a tracer bullet. How’s that?”

The throwback video has been captioned by Shastri as “100 reasons to celebrate Test match No. 100. Its been a fabulous century. Great to watch a lot of it ringside. Enjoy this one champ through the covers…”

Both Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri have a lot of mutual admiration for each other and have worked in tandem as captain and coach. Under their guidance, the Indian team enjoyed so many memorable moments including winning their maiden bilateral ODI series in South Africa in 2018, registering their first-ever bilateral series victories on Australian soil (Tests and ODIs in the 2018-19 season), winning the T20I series down under 2-1 in 2020-21, making the finals of the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship and taking a 2-1 lead in the subsequent England Test series with the fifth and final Test scheduled to be played in July this year.
