New Zealand lifted the WTC trophy after defeating India in the marquee clash at Ageas Bowl, Southampton. Kane Williamson-led Kiwi side outclassed Virat Kohli and his men in all the departments of the game and became the World Test Champions. When the victory fell on the New Zealand side, Williamson and Ross Taylor were present in the middle and pushed their side over the line by eight wickets.

The Indian batters displayed a dismal show in the final innings and kept a meager target of 139 runs for the opponents. After the side lifted the ICC Test mace, their lively visuals went viral on social media. Kane Williamson also added how he felt after lifting the precious thing.

“I mean we’ve never been able to hold it before so it was a different feeling. It is heavier than you think. We didn’t know it was real till we got our hands on it,” said Williamson in a video uploaded on New Zealand Cricket’s official Twitter.

Kane Williamson opens up on New Zealand’s team performance

The classy NZ skipper also opened up on his team’s performance. He added that he was quite happy with the team’s performance and was much happy about the fact that veterans like Taylor and Watling could see victory coming on their way before stepping out (Watling) of the international circuit. The classic wicketkeeper-batsman of NZ, Watling was also quite happy on lifting the glory with his team in his final game.

“There’s a real mixture in the side of newer players and experienced players. You got guys like Ross (Taylor) who is clearly our most experienced. He has been there for so many years and achieving it like this after all the hard work from everybody, the likes of your Ross Taylors and BJ Watling’s. These guys have given so much to our game. It is pretty satisfying that they will reflect on this as perhaps one of the greatest moments in their career,” Williamson signed off.
