Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa has made his IPL debut in the ongoing edition. He was roped in by the Punjab Kings at his base price of INR 50 lakhs. The 30-year-old has managed to impress with his amazing power-hitting abilities so far and had also played a quickfire knock against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Meanwhile, Rajapaksa shared his maiden IPL experience and said that it has indeed been a ‘dream come true’ moment for him. At the same time, the promising cricketer explained what it means to represent the Punjab Kings as he and his family have been backing the Punjab-based franchise since his younger days. He also mentioned that he is eager to make the most of his opportunities with the team.

It’s sort of a miracle: Bhanuka Rajapaksa

“It’s like a dream come true. It was my wife who broke the news to me that I had been bought by Punjab Kings. From my young days it was always Punjab Kings that my entire family had been backing. It’s sort of a miracle that I got into the same side that I’ve been supporting since I was a kid. It’s so nice to be around so many legends. They’re so humble. I’m looking forward to sharing as much information as possible”, said Bhanuka Rajapaksa while speaking to ESPNcricinfo.

The Colombo cricketer has so far amassed 83 runs from three matches at an average of 27.67 and a strike rate of 230.56. Even though he is yet to play a big knock, Rajapaksa had played a counter-attacking knock of 31 runs from nine deliveries against KKR at an outstanding strike rate of 344.4, including three fours and as many sixes. The Sri Lankan sensation was the top-scorer for PBKS in that contest which eventually propelled them to a respectable total of 137.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa looked set for a good innings before being run out by an incredible throw from MS Dhoni in the last game against CSK. He scored 9 off 5 at a strike rate of 180. The southpaw would now be hoping to rediscover his rhythm during Punjab Kings’ next match against Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
