The Virat Kohli-led Indian team suffered their biggest defeat in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship, as New Zealand defeated them by 10 wickets at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on the fourth day morning. The visitors struggled with the bat in both innings, while Kiwi bowlers starred with the ball, as Tim Southee picked nine wickets.

India was bowled out for 165 in the first innings and then only play catch up in the whole Test match. They had a glimmer of hope when they had Kiwis at 120-odd for five wickets, but the last three wickets of New Zealand scored 123 runs, taking them to 348 runs as they ended up with a lead of 183 runs, enough for them to put India under pressure.

Brad Hogg unhappy with India’s performance

In the second innings, though there was a bit more of a fight, with Agarwal making 58 and contributions from Rahane and Pant, India managed 191 runs, asking New Zealand to chase just 9 runs for victory in the match. They achieved the feat with all 10 wickets intact. Tim Southee picked 4/49 and 5/61 in the match and was named Player of the match as well. It was a disappointing match for Indian captain Virat Kohli as well who managed just 2 and 19 runs in two innings he played.

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg was clearly unhappy with the Indian team’s performance and took a sly dig at their performance. He aimed at the Indian team’s struggles in New Zealand after so many tours. Hogg also talked about the batting having only five days to prepare for the second Test match at Christchurch.

Hogg also mentioned India’s good start to the tour as they won the T20I series 5-0, but the tour became worst for them, as they lost the ODI series 3-0 and now the first Test as well.

“India still have there troubles in New Zealand in test cricket. Batsmen have 5 days to find a way to play the seaming ball before Christchurch. First 2 weeks they meant business, next 4 weeks turning into a sightseeing tour,” Brad Hogg tweeted.
