The England spearhead, James Anderson, went past former Indian captain Kapil Dev’s record of 434 Test wickets to take the 6th spot in the all-time highest wicket-takers list in the longest format of the game.
Anderson achieved the feat when he picked up the wicket of Kushal Silva in the first innings of the Test match against Sri Lanka at Headingley. Batting first, England posted a total of 298 on the board on a seaming wicket. When the visitors Sri Lanka walked in to bat, the home team expect their spearhead to get them early wicket and did just that that, with the wicket of opener Kushal Silva.
At the end of the Lankan inning, he added another 5-wicket haul ot his tally and had an overall of 438 Test wickets against his name.
Kapil Dev one of India’s greatest players had once said that: “Every time he comes he looks like taking wickets. He is just a fantastic bowler. He is a complete package. He has everything: speed, a smooth run-up, and every other quality. He uses the crease very nicely. He can give the ball a lift. He swings the ball both ways. He has an effective bouncer, superb slower ones. What more could one ask for?”
