It’s been more than a month ever since the jaw-dropping final of the 2019 World Cup between England and New Zealand at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. The match went down to the Super Over where the hosts set the Black Caps a target of 16. James Neesham and an out-of-form Martin Guptill had the chance of giving the Kiwis their maiden World Cup trophy.

However, that wasn’t the case as cruelty wasn’t served on a platter for Kane Williamson and Co. Adding to the excitement of the contest, the one-over eliminator was also tied, but New Zealand lost the games as the Three Lions were above them on ‘boundary count’. Thereafter, the decision to hand the trophy to the home team turned out to be a controversial one.

In the Super Over, it was Neesham, who did most of the task, scoring 14 runs in the first five balls. He was facing the Brits’ leading wicket-taker in the tournament, Jofra Archer. In the second ball of the over, he deposited Archer over deep square leg to bring down the target to seven off the last four deliveries. In the last ball, two runs were needed and Guptill could only manage a single.

James Neesham shows his cheeky side

Neesham was a disappointed lot, so much so that afterwards he asked youngsters to not take up sport as a profession. He was so close, yet so far from the target. The memories of that game aren’t something to fade away easily. Recently, a fan spoke on the game after a long time. Neesham put up a post on Instagram where he was seen helping his friend shift homes.

The fan told him that he could have hit three sixes in that over to help his team win the thrilling encounter at the Home of Cricket. The supporter replied to his post and wrote, “Ur role in super over oh wow!!Jimmy u should hit 3 sixes & end the fuckin final y u can’t hit 3 sixes?,”

Neesham doesn’t miss out on showing his humorous side and he didn’t let the chance go even this time. The all-rounder replied to the fan and wrote, “oh yea I should’ve just hit three sixes, why didn’t I think of that?,”
