Jason Gillespie is not going to be the next coach of England

The English cricket team is currently recovering from a shocking defeat against Windies at the second Test match that was played at Headingley. Amidst all the tasks the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has to complete, the biggest job they have at their disposal is to find a perfect successor of departing head coach Ottis Gibson. Gibson has been appointed by the Cricket South Africa (CSA) as the Protean head coach.

After the Windian’s departure, former Australian great Jason Gillespie was the first preference of the ECB. According to sources, Gillespie is highly rated as a coach in the English circuit and that is because, under his strict supervision, English county side Yorkshire won the championship back to back in 2014 and 2015. However, the Australian has rubbished all such rumors and has confirmed that he is not looking forward to joining the Three Lions any time soon.

Gillespie looking forward to BBL theme

Gillespie is now the coach of Big Bash League (BBL) side Adelaide Strikers and is in no mood to depart Australia for the time being. “I haven’t thought about it to be honest. “I’m committed to the Adelaide Strikers. We’re pretty excited about the Big Bash coming up in December-January. I’ve got some commitments leading up to the Big Bash as well so it’s not something I’ve spoken to anyone about. As with everything, you listen if someone gives you a call and says they want to have a conversation, but to be honest, at this point, it’s not something I’m thinking about,” said the 42-year old while speaking to The Unplayable Podcast.

He also clarified that the principal reason for leaving Yorkshire even after such a successful stint was to go back to his nation Australia. “There was a reason why I finished up a Yorkshire; it was to come back to Australia and bring our family and get settled back in Australia and spend a bit more time at home,” said the owner of over 3oo international wickets.

Only short-term opportunities now

Gillespie clarified that he won’t entertain any long-term duties and is primely focused on the short stints like that in the BBL with Adelaide Strikers. Hence, there is no chance of seeing Gillespie in the role of a head coach of an international team now. “And certainly for the short term that’s what I’m looking at for the moment; just short-term opportunities to broaden my coaching experience and when an opportunity comes along that I think I can sink my teeth into and make a difference, that might be something that I’ll put my hand up for,” the New South Wales man concluded.
