Former Australia fast bowler and Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie has labelled Mitchel Starc the best fast bowler in the world at the moment in ODI’s after the left armer finished with yet another impressive show with the ball, claiming 3/40 in the 5th and the final ODI of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.

“There is no better fast bowler in ODI’s at the moment than Mitchell Starc,” wrote Gillespie on Twitter.

Gillespie’s words are true in every sense. Starc, who made his comeback from an ankle injury this series, has been Australia’s most impactful bowler. The pitches might be unsupportive but the left-arm fast bowler has been very lethal with the ball and has remained the single biggest threat to the opposition this in both Tests and ODIs.

He currently leads the bowling charts in the ODI series with 12 wickets at 18.16. He was at his best in the Tests too, taking 24 wickets to end as the second highest wicket-taker of the series just four wickets behind the leading wicket-taker Rangana Herath.

Starc also recently became the quickest to 100 ODI wickets beating Pakistani off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq’s mark by one game. Starc required only 52 matches to reach the triple figure mark while Mushtaq did it in 53 matches.

However, it took him close to 6 years to reach this mark while Saqlain did this inside two years time. For this, only injuries can be blamed.

Starc would now hope to remain injury free. He lost most of the action this year due to a serious ankle injury. The Cricket Australia is also making sure to preserve him in good condition for the rest of the season by resting him fo rthe South Africa’s tour which will start after the conclusion of the Sri Lanka tour.
